Who was Nafplion?

Who was Nafplion?

At the foot of a high cliff with a mysterious castle lies the small peninsula of Akronafplia. In ancient times, there was nothing on this peninsula except a single temple dedicated to Poseidon and a small settlement.

The entire land of Argolis suffered from drought – such was Poseidon's revenge after the river god Inachus declared this land belonged to the goddess Hera.

King Danaus, wishing to save the land, sent his 50 daughters to search for water sources and ordered them to pay any price for water. It was here, on the shore of the Argolic Gulf, that the beautiful Danaid Amymone captured Poseidon's heart with her beauty and softened his anger.

One morning, while searching for a spring, Amymone threw a spear at a deer but accidentally struck a sleeping satyr. Awakened and enraged, the satyr chased after the beautiful maiden. Pressing her water jug to her chest, Amymone cried out in fear, and Poseidon, hearing her plea, rushed to her aid. Enchanted by her beauty, he immediately hurled his trident at the satyr, splitting a rock from which the spring of Lerna gushed forth, and the drought in the region came to an end. The satyr fled, and Amymone fell in love with her savior. From this union of love, a son was born – Nauplius, one of the 17 sons of the lord of the seas. The boy grew up on the island of Euboea, where as an infant, he would fall asleep to his mother's lullabies about a distant and beautiful land where her sisters and her royal father lived—a king who had fled from Libya to escape his brother Egypt. At the time, Amymone did not know that years later, she and her sisters, under their father's orders, would cast the 49 severed heads of their husbands into the Lerna spring, and by washing their hands of this sin, they would give birth to the terrifying Lernaean Hydra.
Nauplius grew up at an incredible pace. He matured very quickly and, in his early youth, swam across the Argolic Gulf, where his heart recognized the mythical land his mother had sung about. Setting foot on the soil of Argolis, he decided to found a city there. From those ancient times to this day, this small and beautiful town has existed, its destiny intertwined with vivid historical events.

My paintings reflect the harmony between the external and internal worlds. What secrets does beauty hold? Why has humanity, throughout the ages, sought to surround itself with beautiful things? What purpose did the Creator embed in the perfect forms of nature?

Why is it that an artist, having approached the mystery of the formula of beauty, can transfer harmony into their work but often struggles to find it within their own soul—falling prey to depression and losing their mind under the weight of emotions and anxieties?

How can one gain feedback from a painting and hear the voice of the beautiful yet silent teacher—nature?
Answers to these questions arise during moments of contemplation when I feel like an inseparable part of the surrounding world
